Reflecting the intimate relationship between a dancer and her environment, and set against a pulsating musical composition of strings and percussion, the audience is guided along a multi-sensorial journey of visual storytelling, with complimenting tasting interludes over the course of a two-hour evening. Using flight as a metaphor for the human condition, director Ninette Paloma draws local and international artists together to explore the interconnectedness of floor to air dancing. Exploring the concepts of human desensitization, primordial instincts, and the female archetype in all of its contradictory glory, Elemental You will draw you in and captivate your sensibilities.</p> <p>$20 Admission includes cocktails and canapés</p> <p>Thursday, August 11 7:30pm and Friday, August 12 7:30pm</p> <p>Tickets: <a href="http://elementalyou.bpt.me/">http://elementalyou.bpt.me/</a> Further information: <a href="http://www.palomaprojectdance.com">www.palomaprojectdance.com</a></p> <p><div class="field field-name-file field-type-file field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><div class="styles file-styles large styles-field-file styles-style-large styles-container-image"><div class="media-thumbnail-frame"><img alt="" class="media-image" height="320" width="480" typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://www.rabbitholeprojects.com/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/201607/IMG_0773.JPG?itok=TnPppEVe" /></div></div></div></div></div></p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Tags:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/art-gallery-brooklyn-nyc-dumbo-artexhibit-artindumbo-performance" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">#art #gallery #brooklyn #nyc #dumbo #artexhibit #artindumbo #performance</a></div></div></div> Wed, 27 Jul 2016 16:33:44 +0000 rabbitholeprojects 1421 at https://www.rabbitholeprojects.com https://www.rabbitholeprojects.com/content/thursday-august-11-friday-august-12-elemental-you#comments Saturday, August 6: AERO STUDIES https://www.rabbitholeprojects.com/content/saturday-august-6-aero-studies <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"> <p><div class="field field-name-file field-type-file field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><div class="styles file-styles large styles-field-file styles-style-large styles-container-image"><div class="media-thumbnail-frame"><img alt="" class="media-image" height="480" width="389" typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://www.rabbitholeprojects.com/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/201607/Oneiric%20Knot%20prototype.jpg?itok=aHlwujpu" /></div></div></div></div></div></p> <p><strong>Aero Studies</strong>, a solo show by artist <a href="http://colettealiman.com.">Colette Aliman</a>, will feature four sculptures. In this series, Aliman continues an exploration of inflatable sculpture, a medium that she sees to embody the dialectical relationship between recent pneumatic advances in architecture and the form of the human body.<br />Each sculpture serves as the premise for a unique take on the relationship of form and material, as it relates to pneumatic architecture. This new body of work examines the tactile quality of a selection of materials and expands on it’s architectural capabilities. By using air and space as medium, Aliman utilizes new and innovative ways of synthesizing the archetypes of human biology as a blossoming field within architecture.</p> <p>“With each inhale, a human body takes on the form of an inflatable.” Says Aliman when asked about the concepts that inspiration her creation, “ An inflatable is an animated representation of the act of breathing. Both humans and inflatables must continue breathing to maintain existence. When filled with air, both forms become sturdy, yet retain their flexibility and relative fragility. As we build an artificial envoirnment that encompases the breadth of civilization, we begin to question our relationship to these inanimate structures of our own design.” With the four sculptures of Aero Studies, Aliman strives to capture the moment that we become inquisitive of our surroundings and demand unity between forms that are biological, as well as, artificial.<br />Colette Aliman currently resides in New York City and earned a Baccalaureate of Fine Arts from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, located in Boston, MA. Her work has been exhibited throughout Cambridge and Boston including Mobius Gallery, the 808 Gallery at Boston University, YES.OUI.Si. Space, and Milkhaus. Aliman has recently completed a nine month residency at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY and looks forward to an exhibition at the Gowanus Loft in the fall. In addition to being an exhibiting artist, Aliman is a furniture and textile designer and manufacturer, as well as the co-owner of a Brooklyn based design studio. I maintain a certain child-like fascination with and awe of vistas that propels me to the studio; it is my hope that viewers of the work will have an opportunity to engage in that awe as well.</p> <p>Being heavily influenced by hue, my work employs bright, saturated colors and deep, rich shadows boldly fused with exacting brushwork; I seek to play upon the visual drama that results from a meeting of light and dark. The medium of oil paint allows me the richness of pigment and the ease of blending that I enjoy. </p> <p>I paint using a ‘hyper-pigmentation’ method, which results in colors that wouldn’t normally be found in traditional landscape art. I do this to emphasize the vibrancy of the world around us, both visually and spiritually. Nature’s connection to the souls that share space with it is at once profound and uplifting; my colors reflect that radiance. It is my ultimate aim to push my work further in the atypical direction, resulting in a practice that produces large-scale, immersive pieces that dabble in the fantastical while remaining firmly rooted in a realistic representation of the natural world’s splendor.</p> <p><a href="http://www.mylaseabrook.com/" style="color:rgb(17,85,204);font-family:arial, sans-serif;font-size:12.8px;line-height:normal;">www.mylaseabrook.com</a></p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Tags:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/tags/art-gallery-brooklyn-nyc-dumbo-artexhibit-artindumbo" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">#art #gallery #brooklyn #nyc #dumbo #artexhibit #artindumbo</a></div></div></div> Mon, 25 Jul 2016 17:53:27 +0000 rabbitholeprojects 1401 at https://www.rabbitholeprojects.com https://www.rabbitholeprojects.com/content/thursday-august-4-finding-forever#comments Wednesday, August 3: ANIMATED ARCHITECTURE https://www.rabbitholeprojects.com/content/wednesday-august-3-animated-architecture <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"> <p><div class="field field-name-file field-type-file field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><div class="styles file-styles large styles-field-file styles-style-large styles-container-image"><div class="media-thumbnail-frame"><img alt="" class="media-image" height="480" width="480" typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://www.rabbitholeprojects.com/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/201607/Animated_Arch_Aug3_card.jpg?itok=teJu7zly" /></div></div></div></div></div></p> <p><strong>ANIMATED ARCHITECTURE</strong> in DUMBO: Video Art Projections Event</p> <p>Join curator Sean Stoops and video / digital media artists from Philadelphia, New York, and New Jersey for a special one night "Animated Architecture" video art projection event at RabbitholeStudio in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
